Chris Knoll, affectionately nicknamed ‘Knollsy’ became an overnight sensation when videos emerged of him fending off Dutch ultras on Thursday night.
After West Ham beat AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League semi-final in the Netherlands, hordes of hooligans tried to break into the away end where families were situated.
But ‘Knollsy’, along with many others, managed to hold them off, protecting players’ families as well as fans, and it has earned him widespread adulation.
And a new video has surfaced of West Ham fans singing his name outside The Carpenter’s Arms, a pub just around the corner from the London Stadium.
Sporting a mean black eye, the fan looked emotional as chants of “Knollsy is massive everywhere we go” rang around the pub.
At one point the 58-year-old looked like he was holding back tears in what has been a transformative few days for the West Ham fan.
One fan had his arm around him during the video while plenty more tried to get pictures with him and another was seen telling him what he meant to the supporters as he held his face.
