Harry Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. He needs to leave in order to play regular first-team football next season. And according to a report from Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are keen on signing the 30-year-old defender from Manchester United. Meanwhile, he could be available for a fee of around £40 million.
Maguire will be hoping to get his career back on track with regular football next year, and a move away from Manchester United would be ideal for him. He is unlikely to get game time ahead of the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez next season.
Furthermore, Manchester United have been linked with other defenders in recent weeks, including Kim Min-jae. And if they decide to bring in another centre back in the summer, Maguire will fall further down the pecking order.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will need to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer. And the 30-year-old could prove to be a useful option. Although Maguire has been quite underwhelming since his big-money move to Manchester United, he has proven himself in the Premier League with Leicester City in the past.
He has the experience and quality to do well for Tottenham, and it remains to be seen whether the London club can get the deal done. Spurs have been vulnerable at the back this season, and they will have to tighten up defensively in order to get back into the Champions League and compete for trophies.
They will have to sign a quality partner for Cristian Romero. But it remains to be seen whether Maguire gets to start alongside the Argentine international next season. Tottenham are yet to bring in a quality replacement for Antonio Conte, and they have been linked with a number of managers in the last few days.

It remains to be seen whether they can bring in an impressive alternative to the Italian manager first. It seems unlikely that they will conclude the transfer business before appointing a new manager and therefore any deal for Maguire might have to wait until a managerial appointment has been made.
