Newcastle will play in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years after a 0-0 draw with Leicester secured a return to elite European football.

The Magpies required a point to seal a place in the top four and were frustrated by a Foxes side that turned up and played for a draw.

The hosts had a huge amount of chances but saw Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes all hit the woodwork before Nick Pope produced a magnificent save to deny Timothy Castagne in stoppage time.

Well, that’s it from us tonight as the Magpies sealed a return to elite European football for the first time in 20 years.

It’s an incredible achievement for Eddie Howe and co and the Magpies players and fans will enjoy this and what’s to come.

Meanwhile, Leicester turned in a top defensive display to keep a clean sheet and give them a slight chance of staying in the the top flight on the final day.

They need to beat West Ham and hope Everton drop points at home to Bournemouth.

What a night for Dan Burn!

Born in Blyth, had a season ticket at St James’ Park as a kid, never believed that he would ever play for his boyhood club, helps the club stave off relegation and then plays a massive role in the Magpies qualifying for the Champions League.
