Darren Bent has said that Ederson Moraes and Ruben Dias are the only Manchester City players that could get into the Barcelona side managed by Pep Guardiola.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker was seemingly referring to the 2010/2011 team that won La Liga and the Champions League on talkSPORT.
However, Darren Bent believes that barring Ederson and Ruben Dias, no current Manchester City player can get into that Barcelona XI.Fulham boss Marco Silva claimed that City are clearly the best team in the Premier League and perhaps in world football at present.
“The two that jump off the page, is I think the goalkeeper, Ederson would get in over Victor Valdes.”
“I just think Ederson’s just a better goalkeeper as a whole.”
“Maybe I take out one of the centre-halves. I take [Javier] Mascherano out and put Ruben Dias in.”
While the pundit did consider putting the likes of Bernardo Silva, Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker in the side, he ultimately chose not to.
Impossible for this Manchester City side to surpass that Barcelona era
If City do win the lot, they would surpass the Spanish giants’ 2010/2011 team specifically, as they only won the double.
But Darren Bent is right in implying that the Pep Guardiola era at Barcelona was unmatched, to the extent that as incredible as this Manchester City ensemble is, only Ederson and Ruben Dias can get into that side.
The individual quality in those teams was simply off the scale, with Lionel Messi at the helm of arguably the best club side in history.
However, the fact that the Premier League champions are even in these conversations proves they are also up there as one of the modern era’s greatest teams.
